Answered my own question: needed to upgrade pro tools core audio driver from 7.1.1 to 7.1.1cs2. Hope this may help someone.

Yes it seems it was the driver.

Apparently Core Audio needed to be upgraded from 7.1.1 to 7.1.1cs2.

See if that works for you.

Has anyone successfully used this combination to run Ableton live.

I think this might be the reason for the maxed analog inputs when I try to run live 6; there seems to be a rather serious bug.

I think you're right actually. I think its the core audio driver with live. Has anyone gotten this to work with an intel mac?

It must be a specific problem with the 002; possibly even the combination of the 002 with the intel mac.

I'm guessing they may have tested live 6 with the mbox thinking that would be representative of all digidesign hardware.

I used m digi 002 without any problems with live 5. Performance was probably not as good as with a fireface or motu xxx but it worked. Now, having upgraded to live 6 and to a mac intel core duo, all my analog ins go immediately into the red even when the mics are turned off. Pro tools still works ...
