Fixed the problem. Turned out the Plantronics DSP 300 headset that was enabled as an Asio4All input device caused all the cracking...

However, the spikes and the crackling did not go away. My reference piece sounds OK on VLC and Audition, but not in Live...

Any tips?

Greetings!
When I import mp3 or wave files into Live 6.01, they sound as if they were played from an underwater sitation. There is frequency shifting, reduced quality and echo interfering with the signal. I guess the correct term is intermodulation distorion. In addition there are random spikes.
