Underwater Audio

Greetings!
When I import mp3 or wave files into Live 6.01, they sound as if they were played from an underwater sitation. There is frequency shifting, reduced quality and echo interfering with the signal. I guess the correct term is intermodulation distorion. In addition there are random spikes.

I use Asio4All on a Realtek AC'97 compliant card, running XP Pro SP2. AMD64 CPU.

I also use Adobe Audition and there is no problem here. I have experienced the problem with downloaded movies previously, and I had to change from playing the video in MediaPlayer to VLC and other players. What bugs me is that the same MP3's sound fine in both Audition and VLC but horrible in Live. There is no change if I swap from Asio drivers to DirectX.

I suspect some kind of driver problem or codec mismatch, but I don't know enough about Live to pinpoint the solution. Can anyone help?

If you switch off Warp on the clips, does that fix the problem?

However, the spikes and the crackling did not go away. My reference piece sounds OK on VLC and Audition, but not in Live...

Any tips?

Fixed the problem. Turned out the Plantronics DSP 300 headset that was enabled as an Asio4All input device caused all the cracking...

Damn, I hoped this post would be about using your bathtub, a speaker, and a hydrophone as an effects device... always wanted to do that.
