Loop Split?

"Click at position where you want clip to be split". As soon as I click on the waveform, the "Split Ctrl+E" is greyed out in edit menu. Before I click the waveform it is not. "Ctrl E" does nothing. I've tried clicking in all sorts of ways in waveform area. I'm in arranger and waveform appears below ...
