I (painstakingly) worked around the issue by creating a new audio/midi track, copying the clips, instruments and effects to the new track and updating the routing to be the same as the original track. Everything was working fine, then I pressed the "sync midi controls" button on my midi controller to ensure that all live controls were synch'd to the actual position of the knobs/sliders on my controller...and whammo. If you have two instances of Live sync'd together using midi-sync (clock-type: song) and the master instance changes the song position to a location greater than bar 1025, the slave instance song position pointer resets to bar 1.
