I agree that a physical manual is nice, but the whole thing I like about Live is that there is rarely a need to go to the manual. I think since what I really need are single shot drum samples I might be better with the download and spend the difference on a sample CD more suited to my needs.

I'm planning on upgrading from Live 3 to 4 soon. As far as I can tell, the loop CD is the only real difference. Can anyone comment on the content of that CD, i.e. styles represented? I don't use loops much so I doubt it would be worth it to me but I want to make sure I'm not missing out on something ...

That's not quite what I'm talking about. I'm talking about very short samples like single drum hits. When I loop them I get rapid fire hits that aren't really in any time. I tried unlinking the volume envelope and silencing everything but the first hit but since the actual sample isn't looping in ...

I had to cast my vote for MIDI. It would be useful for me to be able to record MIDI and loop the notes and then apply an envelope to the filter (to use the obvious example) and do it all on the fly. I demo'd Live when it first came out but didn't buy it until version 3. The ability to draw envelopes directly on the sample was the kicker for me. In particular the sample start envelope has been unexpectedly useful. I'd like to be able to take short percusive samples and loop them every four or so ...
