thanks everyone for the tips and suggestions. i've kinda been looking at getting an old mac just for the sound mangling potential so the g3 recommendation is appreciated in reference to this sampler.

did you set the port up in options->preferences->midi?

do you see activity on the midi indicator in the upper right corner?

Rubbish! Die-hard S3200 owner here. The Akai's have some of the best sounding filters IMHO. The only drawback with the S2000 is the tiny LCD makes it quite tricky to navigate, which can be offset by using the MESA software editor.

hmmm... AFAIK the S3/2000 range max out at 32meg of RAM. It wasn't until the S5/6000 that Akai went higher. Still thats a LOT of drum sounds.

i'm attempting to use my k2000 to control live's synths via midi using an SB audigy soundcard. i've followed all the directions through to get this work, but i've had no luck getting any signal through. i've poured through my k2000 trying to find the culprit, but nothing.

with all due respect, i paid 40US for a fully upgraded, maxed out hardware sampler with unique characteristics. i bought it specifically to run all of my drums and synths for my live band due to its 8 outputs and 128mgs of ram ...

maybe you could find someone into trance that's a vocalist and would like to collaborate with you. or maybe write a bunch of patterns or loops that you'd like done with a human voice then bring in a serious vocalist to record some loops to sample and edit later. maybe take out an ad on craigslist ...
