I appreciate the civilized replies to my post. I enjoy sharing opinions and points of view with those who don't see a different, even polar, opinion as a personal insult. Thank you for your explanations and analogies (even the flawed ones). :-)

To those who got all petty and bitchy and responded in ...

Hey Mike,
I remember you from old RMMP days - how've ya been, still modding those Black Dawgs?

Stu McConaghy

STU! Whazzup, bud? Haven't seen your "face" in forever. Yeah, I still send out the occasional Dawg.
I'm building more drums now, and experimenting with hammering brass shells ...

This is a fucking rip off. That's what it is. If you've just purchased Live4 recently you'll have to pay more $$ for live 5. Now tell me who couldn't wait a week or two for the free upgrade by buying after June 1st if they'd have known?

Yes, I agree. Maybe this should've been 4.5 ...

No, it's not the same.

If you are making an arrangement, say, based on cycles of 32,
it's nice to have your sections start at 1, 33, 65, etc.
If you have right-shifted your arrangment, all of that is thrown off.
It's true that there is a workaround, but it's not the same thing.

Just my $.02 ...

I received a reply from Ableton support informing me that it can not be done.

Who knows, maybe in the next version. :-)

select all (Ctrl-A), drag all the clips as one block to the right , then you'll have the negative gap you're looking for.

I understand what you are saying and that can be easily done. But it still doesn't do what I'm looking for. It's not a major issue with me at all-- it would just be a ...

You can just insert a silence. you can find that in the menubar "insert"

Actually, I want it to start earlier, not later. I want to be able to start the Arrangement at (neg)-0.2.0, for example.

That works for individual clips and I'm aware of that after reading about it in the Live Power book. I'm referring to the entire arrangement.
I must not be communicating my question very well. :-(

If you look in the Arrangement View, there is a Time Ruler at the bottom (displays: seconds ...

Add Time Before Zero in the Beat Time Ruler?

Can you add time before zero in the Beat Time Ruler?

Let's say a song starts with some pick-up notes, or an intro drum fill, and you would like to start measure "one" after this. Is there a way to get the Beat Time Ruler to consider the measure after the fill or pick-up notes as measure one-- like ...

Yes, that's cool. It would be the same as me recording a rehearsal on minidisc, etc. There are legit sources of mp3s, but there are infinitesimally more illegal sources, as we all know. :-)
