Re: automation timing accuracy

The key to this is the "Plugin Buffer Size" setting, in the CPU pane of the preferences... set this to 32 (as low as it will go) and this will keep automation latency as small as it can possibly get... If your CPU can't deal with it during playback then leave it where it is while working on the ...

Re: More "sound engine" misinformation - from the Freemasons

Is it just me or is he actually saying very complimentary things about Live...other than the fixed/floating point error, which could be an SOS editorial error in any case?

I like the Freemasons, local lads from my neck of the woods, great producers.

(I do agree their seminar was probably a bit ...

Re: I have a theory why people think the "sound engine" is bad

Fixed point, floating point, I challenge that Freemasons dude to actually explain (a) what these terms mean, and (b) their implications for DAW design and use... I'll eat my hat if he can answer either question.

These terms have real meanings but end up bastardised as marketing slogans... real ...

don't know about the freemasons... can't judge it.

not sure if you saw the thread: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=131448&start=0

Basically one of the Freemasons did an interview in Sound On Sound where he discusses how Ableton sounds different to everything else because it uses ...

Re: I have a theory why people think the "sound engine" is bad

i often have the feeling that it is a reflection of the unsympathetic mixer section (GUI & lack of certain functions) that makes a lot of people claim that they have to import it somewhere else in order to get a good result.

???

perhaps... Microsoft did a study a while back, they sat people down ...

Re: I have a theory why people think the "sound engine" is bad

This is a common theory. It makes sense for new users, but there are established producers like Villalobos that make big claims about Live's sound quality that surely know how to change warp settings, set preferences etc.

Your average person would think the Freemasons, or someone of their ...

I have a theory why people think the "sound engine" is bad

It's all about defaults... when you install Live from scratch, warping (Beats mode) is enabled by default... so whatever audio people drop into a project (loops, full tracks, etc. etc.) are playing back warped from the get go...

This is a whole different paradigm from Logic/Cubase/Whatever, where ...

More "sound engine" misinformation - from the Freemasons

Sound on Sound magazine, UK edition, October 2009 issue, page 102:

Well, Logic obviously, but also [Ableton] Live. Some of the changes that they have made in version 8 have meant that it could well become one of our more creative workhorses form now on. The groove engine on it is phenomenal, I ...

Run that to ensure that the CPU isn't throttling down... and you should be right.

I have a hunch that something tangiblewill be announced soon

Evidence for this theory:

#1: 7.0.11b1 was posted ages, ago, and expired on the 18th of October... Ableton has always ** posted new betas on, or before, the day of expiry of the existing one... If they are lagging, they might just be working on something else more important...

#2: **With one ...
