Unless I'm missing something, all I've known impulse for is an 8 cell drum rack sort of thing. There is no real keyboard/piano playing abilities (that I know of) in it. What I would personally do is to create a drum rack. Lets say you have a kick, a snare, and a hat. Nice and simple. 8)

Then take that track in session view and create three midi clips.

In each clip create a midi not to trigger each drum note respectively.
