question about mono vs. stereo
Hi! Im a relatively new user of Ableton and Im also new to production.Right now Im taking a class from Berklee Online to learn this program and mixing techniques. The lessons are telling me to try to have more tracks in mono vs. more in stereo as they are easier in the long run to use to get a "big ...

Re: Can anyone recommend a PC laptop?
I have used Dell Inspirons for the past 7 years and never had any problems. I have a 15R just now with an i7 3632QM processor and it handles everything I throw at it (mixture of Live and 3rd party vsts, 15-20 tracks). Only additions were a replacement 7200rpm HD and a decent audio interface.

Can anyone recommend a PC laptop?
I'm looking into buying a PC laptop instead of a Mac since I'm more comfortable with the operating system and to save money. Can anyone recommend a decent PC laptop for around or below $2,500? Keep in mind I will not be performing live, just producing. Also I don't really want a custom built...just ...

Re: Is a "Fusion" hard drive a good idea for use w/ Ableton?
read this... personally I wouldn't risk it. go with the ssd, and an external for projects.
Yeah that doesn't sound too good....I think 1TB should be enough if all I'm using the computer for is production...I can always get an external drive...any recommendations? Also is 32gb ram overkill? Should ...

Re: Is a "Fusion" hard drive a good idea for use w/ Ableton?
If you have enough RAM, the operating system will use the RAM as a disk cache anyway. 1GB is an hour of uncompressed audio at 16b/44K. So I don't think you need to worry about whether you use an SSD or a fusion drive as long as you have at least 1GB more RAM than you need. You probably don't need ...

Is a "Fusion" hard drive a good idea for use w/ Ableton?
I have decided to get an i-Mac and I'm trying to decide between a 3TB fusion hd or a 1TB ssd. I really want the 2TB extra storage the fusion can provide...but is it fast enough(I really have just now heard about fusion drives, tbh)?? Or should the 1TB ssd have enough space since I'm only using the ...

Re: Mixing tips for a beginner?
What about leaving at least -6 db below zero for the whole mix to be mastered at, is that a necessity?
Not at all, just a safety net to ensure there's no accidental clipping.

I highly recommend it. The first time someone mastering your track gives ...

Re: Mixing tips for a beginner?
Oh,okay. I just wasn't sure because I read a guide to mixing earlier and it said to do this, but then I watched a couple of mixing guides on Youtube and some of them had the levels right at zero, so I wasn't sure....thanks!Tarekith wrote:Not at all, just a safety net to ensure there's no accidental clipping.
