Can anyone recommend a PC laptop?
Can anyone recommend a PC laptop?
I'm looking into buying a PC laptop instead of a Mac since I'm more comfortable with the operating system and to save money. Can anyone recommend a decent PC laptop for around or below $2,500? Keep in mind I will not be performing live, just producing. Also I don't really want a custom built...just an out of the box PC will do.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Can anyone recommend a PC laptop?
I have used Dell Inspirons for the past 7 years and never had any problems. I have a 15R just now with an i7 3632QM processor and it handles everything I throw at it (mixture of Live and 3rd party vsts, 15-20 tracks). Only additions were a replacement 7200rpm HD and a decent audio interface.

Re: Can anyone recommend a PC laptop?
What size are you looking for?
What features?
Are there any brands on your shit list?
Are any brands on your preferred list?
There is a lot to consider.
I wanted a touch screen and to take advantage of solid state while still having mobility. I ended up going with a computer with two hard drive slots. It ended up being an HP 17", which... Is sort of a compromise for me, but I got alll my features for cheap.
Are you aiming for laptop or something that must always be plugged in? Do you own USB hubs? Need disc drive?

I did replace the existing hd with a WD 7200 drive. It's an easy process but best keep the original for a while in case you need to send the laptop back for Amy reasonbcwarlock wrote:Did you replace the internal drive or just get an external b/c I cant seem to find a laptop w/ 7200 rpm?biestyboy wrote:I have used Dell Inspirons for the past 7 years and never had any problems. Re: Can anyone recommend a PC laptop?
Don't know. I only changed the processor when I picked it so I guess the supplied chipset should be ok but I only use USB devices anyway. The only thing I would change in hindsight is screen size. The screen is fine but a 17 inch at greater resolution would display my Lush 101 betterbcwarlock wrote:Also do I need one of those firewire chipsets if all Im doing is producing and using a usb 2.0 interface??
