you can replace the sample in Si/ampler without affecting the settings by using the hotswap on the simpler itself (waveform area) instead of the drum rack pad

Have you properly routed the kick to the bass's compressor? You should be able to get away with an attack of around 1ms and release of around 15-20 ms with no problem. Perhaps mess with the filters on the sidechain input to cut out the bass from the kick so the compressor is only reacting to the hi...

I think it should be like the drum rack view selector, and Live should accept program change messages and allow you to change with program change buttons on MIDI devices
