Re: compression

My view is that even LAME 320kbps MP3 encodings are inferior to lossless formats, certainly when DJing. Add loudness wars, playback clipping and speaker distortion to that at 100dB SPL and you got a toxic mush. There are DJs and artists out there that know about the subconscious importance of audio...

Some Ableton skins

Hey, edited some Ableton skins for my own use. Though I'd share. Dark and light are an edit of LT: http://pureav.deviantart.com/art/Ableton-Live-9-Skin-589338351 Use them with Color Intensity 20% and Color Hue 219% to get nice blueish tint. But I also added just slightly darker versions of the defau...

Re: Why automation recording is "stepped"?

try holding down shift while drawing or better yet, just use lines and hold down "option" (alt on win?) while dragging the line to make the curve.

Re: Avoid clipping...

This is the most helpful bit of info I've found. Thank you for posting. But it is not correct. If individual channels are not clipping, but master is, you can just add an Utility as first in Master channel and just turn the gain down. Ableton is not the same rules as in analog (due to 32 bit floati...

Re: Avoid clipping...

This is the most helpful bit of info I've found. Thank you for posting. The answer I usually get when asking is "use another DAW," but I think Ableton is great for audio. Being a self-educated musician / guitar player: my instinct has always been to just turn things way up. Like we used to do w tap...
