Re: A way to side-chain the lower end of a sound?

When it comes to phase...

...if it sounds ok to your ears and everything is fine when you check the mix in mono... Then it's really no problem, right?

Re: A way to side-chain the lower end of a sound?

but if the kick coming in is predictable... might as well draw in freq automation on the clip  although you can reach some very happy mistakes using the envelope follower... That is very true. And obviously the simplest approach in many ways. I really like the envelope following idea though, ...

Re: A way to side-chain the lower end of a sound?

use the m4l envelope follower device with a lpf'd version of your kick have it control a hpf freq on the desired track... (push freq higher when sound is kick bass is coming in) you can tune and adjust the response to your liking on the 'envelope follower'... Ah, that's interesting. Cheers, I will ...

Re: A way to side-chain the lower end of a sound?

Thank you! That's great. I suppose my next question... Is this a valid mixing technique? Is this something people actually do? I have this one track that is particular heavy due to a rather powerful pad. Doing the normal side chain with the kick doesn't work as I don't want the pad to duck in and ou...

A way to side-chain the lower end of a sound?

I've been wondering this for a while. Say I have a thick pad sound and a heavy kick drum. Rather than just side-chain it so the volume of the pad is lowered when the kick comes in, is there a way of setting up an EQ on the pad so it's lower frequency only is cut when the kick comes in. That way the ...

Project stats like missing plugins and resources per track

Ableton Live 8 is starting to crack on my MacBook Pro (late 2008). I would love to know which of my tracks are taking up the most resources (either RAM or CPU), sometimes it's not as easy to know just by looking at the complexity of the track itself. Also, it would be great to know which tracks have...

Re: Will Max4Live in Live 9 be completely integrated?

Max for Live in Live 8 does not require you to launch Max separately -- it launches automatically the first time you try to use an instrument or effect that requires it. Just to clarify, Max does need to be installed in order to run Max For Live. Now whether you *open* Max separately depends on wha...

Will Max4Live in Live 9 be completely integrated?

I just wondering if anyone could answer this. When I last messed with M4L in Live, you had to have Max open in the background as a separate application to then run M4L in Live. I wonder if Live 9 will have M4L completely integrated? As in, I can just load and edit Max patches without it opening a ne...

Re: Is the Lemur iOS app useless with Live without Max4Live?

Thanks for replying. So maybe TouchAble is a better option for me? Saves me investing in Max4Live and Lemur? Firstly, I'm after a decent mixing interface. I want to mix my levels, my pans, my sends without using a mouse (just never feels right to me). I'd like some grid control too to start a track ...

Re: Is the Lemur iOS app useless with Live without Max4Live?

Thanks for the reply. So you would recommend the software? Do you use it a lot or is just a bit of a fad in the studio? Sorry for all the questions, like I say, it's quite expensive so want to make the right choice. You say Lemur can send MIDI out. So apart from my iPad, my Macbook Pro with Live and...

Is the Lemur iOS app useless with Live without Max4Live?

Hello. I'm getting quite interested in the Lemur iOS app and want to use it with Ableton Live. It's a lot of money to shell out, so was curious to know how useful it is if I don't have Max4Live? I looked through the Lemur iOS User Library and it seems a lot of the stuff requires you to have Max4Live...

Re: Parametric EQ?

I find the EQ8 to be very useful, but the fact the spectrum analyser is separate and the display is a little small, I find FabFilter's Pro-Q to be excellent. In fact, I reckon it's one of the best. Check that as a fantastic "upgrade" to Live's EQ8. But I do agree with others, EQ takes ages to learn ...

Re: Howto : Make Ableton use Less CPU in OSX

Hi All, I've recently moved to OSX and was slightly disappointed to see that I can't turn off SpeedStep for my C2D...it really seemed to make OSX perform worse in comparison to Windows. This software was designed to fix the "whine" issue seen on MBP's http://www.red-sweater.com/blog/107/macbook-pro...

Re: Howto : Make Ableton use Less CPU in OSX

Using 2.2GHz C2D 2G Ram 10.6.4 OSX, Using 8 channels, 4 audio, 2 drum machines, 2 sample tracks. Usually hitting 35%-40% max when everything is going off. Using Quiet MBP keeps me at 28%-32% no change. AWESOME!!!! Will be better when I finally install 4G RAM!! .............................Cheers fo...
