Does anyone know if there's a way of playing a sample on a keyboard without the sample starting from the beginning?

I want to preserve the timing of the sample but be able to change the pitch using my keyboard as it continues playing. Is this possible or would it be a crazy drain on resources?

Having some issues with Live running as the rewire slave with Pro Tools. I am able to load Live as a slave but get nasty glitches when I try and play anything back from an Live track and they get progressively worse the more tracks I add. Has anyone had any similar issues?
