Hey
I'm having the same problem only I'm not working with a synth but with a ronald V-drum (is plus/minus equal to a ronald synth).

I want to record via my Ronald synth to ableton in MIDI with the same drumtones.

I've read this forum and I see always that you have to connect you're synth with ...

I haven't found it yet, can somebody helps me. (of give me some info).

I've just have plugged my Roland TD 8 module into my computer,
I can record (in midi) in Live and I can send back out to my module.

I'm just using ableton and i find it really a fantastic program so I want it to use with my roland TD 8 V-drum controller.
I have bought a midi interface and have coupled my drum controller with the computer.
Ableton recognise my midi in signals and can resend the midi signal back to my TD 8 ...
