Does live allow you to name physical MIDI ports or audio inputs/outputs for that matter? Example, if I have my 8 port MIDI interface connected can I name the ports so I can choose by device name instead of port numbers?

there are a few reasons for using an interface. in general the 1/8th input jack on the computer isn't going to deliver in terms of quality. if you use that jack you're probably going to have noise issues to deal with.
