This is sort of rant, but I'm hoping that maybe some of you could clue me in on how you deal with this problem. I'm learning Live and since I don't have any gear at the moment, I'm trying to practice sampling stuff. I'm trying to rip stuff directly from a cd into live but it doesn't seem to want to let me do it...is there a way?

also when I load a sample it seems to insist on loading the whole thing, is there a way to make it stop half way through?

Lets say I want to lift something off another song. Do I have to import the whole song? How do you guys edit the part you need to use, do you use another program?

I don't seem to have any drum kits or anything...is this normal? Do they only come once I buy Live? Is anything else missing or disabled?

I'm trying to get the hang of live, it's a little confusing. I get the impression that the session view is for triggering samples, but I can't really see it's use in normal song arrangements. I'm used to working linearly, what would be the point of having these clips turning of and on at will unless ...

Lets say I drop a drum loop onto the arrange window of live. After I edit the loop I"m ready to drop it into a clip box in the session view, how do I do that? Am I missing something here?

I went to www.futureshop.ca. There seems to be a hung price difference between the 2.0 ghz and the 3. The difference is almost a 1000k! The difference between a 2.16 and a 2.2 is like $800. I`m about to up grade my computer. I`m wondering if anyone out there can let me know what combination of computer and USA sound card they`re using with Ableton. I want something that doesn`t crash. Please give me the specifics! Thanks

I`ve used acid and reason for a while, sonar too, but ableton seems more up my alley. But I like to get songs started using beats. Where is a good place to get samples to use in my songs? I`ve often had a problem getting samples that fit into my style as well, mellow accoustic rock ...

1. Can i use acid loops
2. Where can I buy or download loops
3 Does ableton have a loop format of their own?
