Just reviving this thread with some more information. I've also experienced this freeze/failure to start up. I run Live on a Mac. For me, this happens when Core Audio dies or crashes. (This happens periodically while using two audio interfaces simultaneously.) I can fix the issue by "force quitting ...

Just another upvote for Push Arrangement mode support. Have we heard anything from Ableton about this?

Update:
Some AU plugins had components (content) that were installed on that SSD. Now when I open my sets with those plugins, the plugins do not load.

It seems this may be due to a "failed" unmounting of the external drive, even though I always "Eject" it from Finder properly. Apparently ...
