im having the same problem after updating to Sonoma. any solution yet?
Worked for me:
- go to System Settings -> Privacy and Settings -> Microphone -> Disable Ableton access to microphone

Agree, this has been happening on and off for almost a year now, ever since I got the new Mac. It really sucks. I can't believe it's not fixed yet but unsure if it's Ableton or Apple. For me it will happen when I add a new plugin or track and Ableton has to update it's buffer/delay size or something ...

I have no idea hoe Macs work but where did you physically save them on your system? Apart from the manual time machine backup do you do any other form of regular (daily/weekly) backups? If not, do that too.
