Thank you, the "arm" button did the job. It just took a little time to find it (I forgot to write I was on a German version of Live).

And yes, there is a shift button on Macs. Just imagine, they even have colour displays

Shame on me, but I completely forgot that old silly neat trick that allowed me to click the red "dots" in every MIDI instrument slot in order to play multiple instruments in unison mode.

I've checked the prefs, but could not find the appropriate setting.

I've bought the boxed update Live 4 -> Live 5 for just one reason: to get a printed manual (which I missed having bought Live 4 as a downloadable update).

1. Yes, you can open any VST (available for your plattform) in Live 5 und back in 4. What you cannot do, however, ist to open a VST for Windoows on a Mac and vice versa, but this should be no issue.

I guess the guy you were talking to had no idea what he was talking about. Of course there are 7200 rpm firewire 400 drives out there. PowerBook can of course make use of a speedy harddisk. Firewire 400 is also more than sufficient for audio application, while fw 800 makes more fun with video apps ...
