Hey wow man - it's boxed, isn't it?

Post by aljen » Thu Jul 28, 2005 6:41 am

Just received my boxed 5 version yesterday.

Of course I had played with downloaded version all the past weekend long, but...

Frankly: well done - well served, Ableton.

Das Auge isst mit. 8)

It's like unwrap a new Mac or iPod (oor undress a... well, leave it alone). Of course one can say it was just the package, but well, I am a graphic designer and Mac user and I just like things which are served pleasantly, I cannot help myself. ;-)

Nowadays, even expensive softfware used to come in a "who cares" package, the actual install CD in a cheapo paper envelope - so it's just a nice surprise to hold Live's distinguished digipak in your hand.

Even the reference manual has lost it's former "Copy shop & Dönerbude in einem" charme and deserves the name "Book", finally.

By the way, will there be also a German manual available?

Along with new packagings from Corel (Painter IX) and Propellerheads (Reason 3), this box for sure won't disappear in the drawer.

greetings, aljen

Just got my box... very nice.

But if you want to see a real work of art, check out the Apple Motion 2 packaging.

I'd like to see a competition for the "who-can-most-fellate-the-new-customer-intro-paragraph-in-the-manual"

e.g.
Thank you noble and esteemed sir, for gracing our humble product with the eminent graciousness of thy majestic attention. We prostrate our unworthy selves before you in our lowly desire to provide your Graces with a fruitfull and extended relationship blah blah blah

Boy, I've seen some........

@hambone: I've not seen the Motion package yet, but knowing well other Apple wrapping ideas, I am going to ;-)

In return, you have probably not seen how Corel Painter IX comes in. Just while talking in terms of fine arts :-)

@ mosca, I haven't found any stickers in the package as far. Maybe I should look again into da boxx :)

Guess the paint can is long gone? Think I actually threw mine out eventually!

I left Painter I think after 5.5 and went to Studio Artist.

Can anybody tell me if the printed manual with the box is the same as the PDF in the download version? Or is the printed manual a shorter version of the PDF?

Just trying to decide if I want to buy the boxed version or not.

Thanks.

Yes, it is gone since Painter 6 aka since Corel incorporated the Painter team :-(

They did this for marketing reasons. The paint can wouldn't fit in any standard store shelf, Corel explained. 6 till 8 packages were pretty ugly and useless.

get the pdf, download live and you'll save 30 euros. Yeah, the manual looks good, it's nice, well done, the you have your installer cd (but since you can download before the box arrives... who cares about the cd) Well, the library cd, but if you want to make your own loops... you wont need that cd, besides they will be ready to download aswell pretty soon, right?... so you get nothing special, not even 1 sticker, or cheap plastic ring with live's logo on it... nothing...
still love Live, but I'm feeling a bit sad... (anyway, it doesn't mean that I want to pay 30 euros for a bunch of stickers, but... )

wwaaaa, no L5 sticker on my helmet!!!!! not cool, it is not...

Yeah, I'm bummed about the lack of stickers too!

Maybe someday in the future we loyal Live customers will get some kind of a hug.

I still have all my Live boxes (well, back to 1.5 at least) and I sort of hate to part with them, but it doesn't make much sense to keep them around at this point.

I did download the 5.0.1 upgrade but also ordered the box. The CD I burned has the installer and all the license and unlock codes. I basically paid the extra $ for the manual, I guess. I probably should have saved the money and waited until Ableton Live 5 Power comes out and spent the $ on that.

In any case, 5 has been a great upgrade, astoundingly, and apparently not any hungrier on my CPU than 4 which amazes me.

r.
