Recently purchased a Roland SBX-1, and it has an amazing swing feature (called shuffle on the unit) that will swing any external sequencers.

It's swinging my TR-606/707/727/808, TB-303, SH-101, MC-202, Elektron Rytm, along with about 10 other external sequencer devices absolutely perfectly.

But ...

My MacBook Pro has 8GB of ram.

I think RAM nowadays is getting pretty high, and this feature is needed.

When people were running live on 512mb-1GB it's understandable that this option would fill your RAM quickly.

Having 8GB or more this isn't really too much to ask from your computer.

If you have an iPad, hawtin is releasing an app similar to a launchpad. It's called Griid (yes with 2 i's).

It should be released in the next few weeks. I've used the app, very briefly and it's something else!

If not, I'd say LaunchPad. It seems there's a lot of cool things going on with it ...

If HD space is of no concern, it never hurts to keep everything 24/96.

I mentioned the mixer is a few years old (well out of warranty) and they never asked why I wanted them. Just asked my address and sent away.

I recently modified a dj mixer of mine with some doepfer boards. Regardless here's my issue...

There are 4 potentiometers on the doepfer board. They send the following midi data:

1. pitch bend
2. modulation (MIDI controller #1)
3. volume (MIDI controller #7)
4. monophonic after touch


My issue ...

I recently got an iPhone (16GB black). I've been experimenting with a lot of the beat maker, fake monome, iTM stuff....

They are all useful in certain ways, and the future looks bright.

But what I've noticed is they are all 'toys' somewhat, than very useful tools.


Ableton should strip down Live ...

This is great news, but with all due respect... this is coming from the mouth of a guy making money off of indy artists.

A positive article is going to help promote the site, indy music, and encourage people to spend money at cd baby.

A negative article would hurt the site, make people go else ...

I looked around for a spot on the site to buy a cd, mp3 or donate money but couldn't find anything.

If donating money can help fund this amazing project, I'd love to help out in some way.
