I also tried Reaper and after 2-4 weeks it became more natural to work on songs. It seems a little more efficient if you already have a song structure and use more instruments and/or audio tracks.
The routing options are organized differently but it has some major advantages regarding "the ...

Re: Understanding Frequency Ranges
To understand is to listen. The graphs are only a visual representation of the audio spectrum.
It takes a relatively long time to know how a certain frequency sounds. You can practice it with a little more focus.

Re: tutorial to buy
I recommend a tutorial with Timothy Allan. It´s presented with the right attitude and it can at least give you a spark of enthusiasm to refine your methods.
Btw, I ordered the Reaper tutorial yesterday with Kenny Gioia and this very tutorial convinced me to switch to Reaper. Groove3 seem to hire ...

Right after listening to the Thomas Penton tracks I listen to this ( http://www.ulikringlertrio.de/ ).
And there you have it. Dynamics, modulation.

Re: home sound vs outdoor PA - help!
I´ve learnt that it might be good to reduce the playback from a high trackcount. Also the amount of fx can be dialed back. For some reason it is good to send out different sub groups if possible. I usually give the PA-guy drums (2), bass (1), pads (2), melodic stuff with attack+guitar (2), voc (1 ...

you stand a better chance of winning the lottery than getting anywhere in music. buy a lotto ticket.
It´s okay. Thanks for the tip. I don´t measure success in sales anymore. If someone likes to listen to the stuff that´s fine. If not, life goes on but I feel happy in making music.

Re: What do you do with a lazy, unreliable lead singer?
It´s time for an update :)
I am quite frank about it. I had 3 therapies (mental illness) and I am back on track. Kind of necro threading but it´s probably useful for someone else who is/was in the same situation.
I didn´t have drug problems or anything related to this just an overpowering need for ...

Re: Advice on drums from Ableton with drum racks
I´ve learnt my lessons over the years when it comes to transitions from studio to live PA.
I´d say it is best to remove any fx from the raw audiofile. I can adjust to the accoustics in the venue with subgroup eqs. I also noticed it is best not to use compressed or much effected sounds on stage ...

Maybe the pic can explain this a little more.
I try to center the deep freq. But you can use the upper freq of a bassline to create a quasi stereo feel. When M/S-Eqing I usually tend to cut off freq content below 300 hz on the stereo ...

Re: How to finish more tracks
After reading the blog there is one big question.
How do people estimate their skills? I think, the ones who are realistic and blessed with enough ambition are on the right track. Usually we are not able to qualify what is good and what´s not.

Re: Where do you upload you're music to get some feedback?
What about a partnership of reviews?
link your music section. That´s a hard topic, imo. But here´s one suggestion.
One track gets reviewed by one forum member and then in exchange the reviewed artist needs to comment on the first reviewer´s track.

Why doesn´t this getting bashed, because it is in the "wrong section"? Normally link to your music, right? Others are shown the red card right away before they were given a good listen.

Re: Perceived Sound Quality of popular soft-synths (discussion)
I´m satisfied in terms of workflow. You can create many modulations and still keep an overview of what is going on. I don´t use presets so I can´t comment on that. Often times I put a Fabfilter Volc 2

Re: Grouping drums together and compressing them
Beware of compressor issues. In the last months I rather turn up the volume and let the drums "stick out of the mix". Then I do subgroup mastering with a compressor which has dry/wt knob.
There seems to be a more distinguishable, clearer result in the mastering process.
