tutorial to buy

Post by locket » Tue Aug 09, 2011 4:10 pm

Just need a little advice, not sure what tutorial to buy, heard good stuff about tom cosm and groove 3, would like to watch the house drums one by allen because i would like to learn about percussion and rythm but they do seem a little expensive and im not sure how much content you actually get, heard things about tom cosm but aswell not sure about the content and what i would get, just need a little encouragement and insight so i can take the plunge, i just dont want to waste my money.

I recommend a tutorial with Timothy Allan. It´s presented with the right attitude and it can at least give you a spark of enthusiasm to refine your methods.
Btw, I ordered the Reaper tutorial yesterday with Kenny Gioia and this very tutorial convinced me to switch to Reaper. Groove3 seem to hire experts and you really get nicely
structured information you really can use to integrate this in your workflow.

Just another quick question do you need to have ableton suite to do the house bundle that allen guy does, because i hsvnt got operator and am wondering if some it would be worthless to me.

Tom Cosm is also worthy of some of your money, great tips at a nice pace

Timothy Allen House Drums has 2 little videos using operator and the rest is sample based. The videos are on how to make a reverse cymbal with white noise and a perc / tom sound - not a deal breaker

I didn't own suite when I did all the previous videos, the only thing I used sometimes was operator, but really any synth can be substituted :)

BTW The vids are all here on the left under "Products"! http://www.groove3.com/str/authors.php?authorid=15

Edit: none of the samples came from Ableton either. They're just generic samples you can find in any sample CD or magazine DVD.

Nicks tutorials are the best ones i have seen if you are interested in sound design.

There is loads and loads of good info in them.
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

Maybe you should try looking into a few books out there first.

"How to make a noise" is a free book, and there's a few like Dance Music Manual which costs alot less than the tutorials out there. Then you can see what parts you really need to focus more on and then put down the cash for a tutorial or two.
