It turned out that the problem was thermal throttling. The kernel wasn't, in reality, doing way too much. It was intentionally making the processor do nothing in order to cool down.
After taking the laptop apart, cleaning out all the dust, and putting in fresh thermal grease, it is working much ...

Ableton Link to Reaper: extreme kernel CPU hogging
I have been trying to connect Live 11 Suite to Reaper using Ableton Link on a 2019 Intel Macbook Pro. The problem I am getting is that it causes the kernel task to run at around 1000% CPU, making the machine unusable.
In Reaper I am using the third-party Reablink plug-in for the link to Ableton ...

Re: How are high quality isolated instrument tracks created?
Check out the old Classic Albums documentaries on Amazon Prime and elsewhere. They go into the original sessions of famous songs and you get to hear some really unique things in the playing you can’t hear in the finished songs. Really awesome series to watch on many fronts.
Cool! They don't seem ...

Re: How are high quality isolated instrument tracks created?
You are absolutely right. I’m more into Geddy Lee and Chris Squire etc. too.
It fits me better too, although I have to say I love reggae basslines too!
I've just discovered this YouTube channel with isolated tracks, apparently with royalties going to the original artists, and full of prog ...

Re: How are high quality isolated instrument tracks created?
Everyone and everybody is leaking these days, and it is good fun and educational.
Isolated parts can sure help to play the parts as good as possible when you study them.
I'm a big fan of Geddy Lee, but it seems almost impossible to play songs by Rush on bassguitar for me.
I come a long way ...

Re: How are high quality isolated instrument tracks created?
I guess you're probably right.
That does make me wonder though how these things find their way into the wild. Do the artists intentionally leak them, or is it some studio tech doing it when no one is looking?
I once find the isolated Tony Levin bass from Sledgehammer on YouTube, but then it ...

How are high quality isolated instrument tracks created?
On YouTube you can find isolated instrument tracks of the highest quality, such as the isolated bass of Rush's Tom Sawyer that I discovered yesterday, where every slightest nuance of the original performance stands out. I learn much more about how to play my instruments from these, and also about ...

Can't get MIcrotuner to work properly in non-MPE mode
I am trying to get Microtuner to work with a 24-TET Scala file. In MPE mode it seems to work OK sometimes, but I have very few MPE capable instruments, so I have been trying to use it non-MPE mode. Unfortunately, I am not having much luck. I can see that the Pitch Bend parameter has something to do ...

The contents of my Drum Rack have gone missing
Today I fired up Live after quite a while not using it and found that the Instruments folder was empty. I mostly fixed this by setting the Packs location to a different location and then setting it back to the correct one and restarting LIve. Now I can once again see the contents of theWavetable ...

Running Live, Komplete, etc, from external SSD
I have just acquired a 2019 Intel Macbook Pro, having previously been using Windows. This will give me the possibility to install apps to external drives, rather than having to put all apps on the C: drive, and this will be handy because I will be installing quite a bit of bulky software and I only ...

Re: Ableton 11.1 is here, and the VST 2 workaround...
I don’t understand why people don’t simply install all their plugins to a common folder. It’s simple to do and to change the path in each installer. If you forget, most cases you can simply move the plug-in or just reinstall it correctly. Makes things so much cleaner and easier to manage.
As ...

Re: Ableton 11.1 is here, and the VST 2 workaround...
Maybe they are looking at the long term, when VST2's are no longer available, which will happen sooner or later.
VST3 doesnt have this issue, as they are installed in a system defined folder.
Possibly, but if so, it's presumptuous, to say the least. It's not just obscure freeware plugins that ...

Re: Ableton 11.1 is here, and the VST 2 workaround...
I replaced all my shortcuts with symlinks, using Double Commander instead of the command line, which made it slightly less tedious.
However, when I ran the plugin scanner again, I started getting all kinds of error messages.

Re: Live can't see VST2s after upgrade from version 11.1
I've found this post https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&p=1798822 about the same issue. Apparently this is a known breakage. To get round it, you either have to copy all your VST2s to the single VST2 folder that Live allows you, or open a command prompt and go through the tedious process of ...

Live can't see VST2s after upgrade from version 11.1
I upgraded from Live 11.0.12 to 11.1 and suddenly it no longer seems able to see any of my VST2s (although it does see my VST3s).
What had been working up that point was that my custom VST2 folder in Live was a folder containing shortcuts to all the various locations of VST2s in my Program Files ...
