Re: how do you improvise over a midi loop without recording the overdub?

First, the track record arm button has to be on (that you can hear the input signal, monitor=auto). When you want to overdub into the clip, use the clip record button (circle right beneath the transport buttons). This toggles between play and record of the currently played clip(s) in the track(s), ...

Routing input to a ReWire device?

I want to run Live as a ReWire master and Reaper as the ReWire device because I have a project which will need a lot of comping, which Reaper does much better than Live. How can I route my audio inputs to Reaper while it is a ReWire slave of Live?

Re: how do you improvise over a midi loop without recording the overdub?

But if I set monitoring to "in" I only hear the new notes coming from my MIDI keyboard, and if I set it to "auto" or "off", I only hear the loop that I have already recorded. How can I hear them both at the same time?

how do you improvise over a midi loop without recording the overdub?

How can I improvise percussion over a MIDI loop I have already recorded without recording the overdub? Say I've laid down a kick drum and snare in a MIDI loop and I want to experiment with adding other instruments from the same kit on the same track without recording them, how do I do that?

Re: Can you change the tempo of a midi item in arrangement view

I found a solution. It wouldn't be precise enough in itself for finished piece of work, but it is good enough for my rough first draft. I bounced the output of the midi track to a new audio track. Enabled warp on the audio track and altered the tempo. My project is set at 73 bpm. The drum loop had b...

Can you change the tempo of a midi item in arrangement view

I'm working on a rough draft of a song, and because of a mistake I made regarding the tempo of the main drum loop at an earlier stage, a midi recording of an improvisation in arrangement view is running a tiny bit slower than everything else and drifts out of sync. Is there a way to speed it up slig...

Re: unwanted silence added when importing audio clip

What I wanted to do was replace one strum of my guitar with the same chord from the next bar. Is there a way to do that in Live?

Re: unwanted silence added when importing audio clip

I've just realised that I've asked a stupid question. When I zoomed in in audacity, I found that the two clips were not exactly the same length.

unwanted silence added when importing audio clip

When I take a loop recorded in Live, edit it in Audacity, and import it back into Live, there is unwanted silence at the end, meaning that the events in the loop are no longer in time. This is what happens: I record my loop in Live. Today it was a bit of guitar strumming. All the strums were more or...

Re: Is there a way to do multiple takes and splice them together?

the single most compelling reason I've had yet to try Reaper. the Reaper fanboys around here just post ugly noise. I switched from Reaper to AL because, on balance, AL, and particularly the session view, gets me in a more experimental mood. But there are still occasions when I need to do something ...

Re: Is there a way to do multiple takes and splice them together?

That really doesn't come close to what you can do in Reaper. In Reaper the takes are visually stacked on top of each other so that when you split one, you split all of them at the same place, and you know that at any point in the time line all the takes will be at the same place in the song. You can...

Is there a way to do multiple takes and splice them together?

In Reaper you can record multiple takes for a track and then you can splice them together, so if you fluff a note in one take and then fluff a different note in another take, or if you just happen to have a wonderful moment in a third take, you can easily splice all the best bits of each take togeth...

Looking for recommendations for audio-friendly motherboards

I have a computer with a terrible ground loop problem that puts bus noise in my inputs. I have ruled out my audio interfaces as the root of the problem, so the most likely candidate is the motherboard, an ASRock 980DE3/U3S3. I have done my best to resolve the problem with only limited success. I can...

How do you temporarily disable effects in Live 10?

In Reaper, there is an enable/disable tickbox next to every effect in an effect chain. There is also an enable/disable effects button for each track. How do you enable and disable effects in Ableton Live?

Keep recording of new clip going when sequencer has stopped?

In the session view sometimes I record the output of the master track to a new clip in order to keep a record of my ideas as they develop. What I want to do is to be able to stop the playback of the various loops that are feeding into the master track, but to keep recording my new clip for a few sec...
