I read through the website, and I don't see how that would fix my problem. I want the controllers un-synced, and Ableton is automatically syncing them and I can't tell Ableton not to do it. Ableton is gluing the clip launch grids of both APCs together into one wider grid, and that's not what I want ...

In Live 9, they had a thing called the Options.txt file, which I used to detach my two APC40s so I could look at different areas of the project with them, by inserting the code -DontCombineAPCs into the file. Reference:
