I am running Sonar 7/Reason 4/Nuendo 3 and it gives me absolutely no problem. If I need to upgrade my machine for Live 8 then it will be too much of an investment. I would rather stick to Live 7.

Re: Why is Ableton Live 8 so CPU Intensive?

Meanwhile, your VST problem is easy to solve: Put a shortcut in one of your VST plugin folders that refers to the other one. Alternatively, create a third folder that contains nothing but shortcuts that refer to the other two, and tell Live that that third folder is where your VST plugins are ...

Re: Why is Ableton Live 8 so CPU Intensive?

[quote="ark"]It's hard to know whether Live's cpu usage is reasonable because you haven't said anything about how much it's actually using, or under what conditions -- you've just said that it's using more than you would like. That might mean that there is something wrong with Live, or it might mean ...

Why is Ableton Live 8 so CPU Intensive?

I just downloaded the demo version of Live 8 and found it to be rather CPU Intensive. I am using an AMD 3500+/4GB RAM and M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB 2.0 Audio Interface(256 Samples).

Do I need to change/upgrade my audio interface?

I also found it rather annoying that in order to acess all my VST's ...

[quote="dj superflat"]emu 1616m is awesome if it will work with your system, particularly at the price (setup can be a hassle as you sort out compatability issues (even if you've got an "approved" machine) and how patchmix works). that is, it's pretty much within beginner range, if just a bit more ...

Singer - I'm not the person to ask about M-audio soundcards, I personally hear of too many people with issues to think it's worth the risk. As they can vary in price from $50 to $4000, it might help if you said how much you want to spend for people to make recommendations. In general, soundcards ...

I can run Live and Logic both down to about 128samples on my Ultralite, maybe lower, never even tried to be honest. Anything less than that jacks the CPU useage up higher than I think is worth it for another ms or possibly 2.

Especially as I normally use 256 or 512 samples for producing and DJing ...

The best possible would either be an 8 core MACPRO or a similar specced PC version Dual Intel chips 771 chipset.

Probably overkill though.

If you want the best there's now in single chipped motherboards. I'd go something with an intel X38 based chipset.

Gigabyte GA-X38-Dq6
Intel Core 2 Quad ...
