Re: Utility Effect- Input Gain

I am still learning Ableton and it's also my first time working with a DAW so thanks very much for taking the time to explain all this, much appreciated!

At this point my recordings are very simple and include vocals, guitar, and bass on separate tracks all via mic.
I set the Ableton track, master ...

Re: Utility Effect- Input Gain

>> the clip you imported has been recorded too hot
This was sent as an M4a file that I converted to WAV using a ripping tool.
It was a live recording and despite the reading, it sounds quite good with no audible distortion.

Setting levels in Ableton, I there a general rule about how high gain ...

Utility Effect- Input Gain

v12.2.1

I have imported a stereo clip using the Utility effect and want to isolate the left track.
The effect displays both input and output levels but only the output gain can be controlled.
While the effect input level is clipping it does not respond to the the gain on the effect, track or master ...

Re: MP3 Import Truncated

Right, the song ends abruptly where it carries on with a 6 second tag when played via external music player.

MP3 Import Truncated

Win 11, Ableton Live 12.1.1

When importing an MP3 file into a new Live Set, 6 seconds at the very end of the track are truncated.
I first created a blank audio track then tried
In session view, dragging the file in as a clip
In arrangement view, dragging into the main line
I tried dragging with ...

Menu View Option Blocks Menu

Win 11
Ableton Live 12 Standard

When selecting View from the main menu, the display extends above the application window and prevents menu movement to the right. Please see below. Is there a possible work-around for this?

Re: Inconsistent Fader Volume Levels when Editing

The cassette deck outputs were routed through the Focusrite Scarlett interface so I controlled the input gain there, never wanting to cause distortion in the interface. The Focusrite output never came close to clipping the Ableton track faders.

My return track had, in this order: EQ3, Delay ...

Re: Inconsistent Fader Volume Levels when Editing

I know it may seems odd to push zero DB but the sources I am currently dealing with have a very low volume level. They are a selection of amateur-recorded, live sessions on stereo cassette tapes. When importing them, I pushed the input gain as much as I could but the volume level was still very low ...

Inconsistent Fader Volume Levels when Editing

Ableton Live 11.3

Frequently when I attempt to edit the volume on a given track, when replayed, the fader peak value will change.

For example, assume I have set my peak level to 0 DB and some point in the track, it clips to +.2.00 db

I stop play, reposition 3-4 beats behind the clip point, make ...

Well said and something I have come to accept.

The challenges were well explained here by others as well so it does give me some sense of relief knowing I'm not missing any obvious ...

I wasn't aware of this so thanks. I'm new to recording so these are the fundamentals I am still learning and

Thanks and that looks like a good option.
Can I please follow with 2 more-
Since it involves installing and learning another application, I might consider an Ableton 3P noise reduction plug-in. Can you suggest one for this purpose?
From your response, it appears Ableton is not considered for ...

Live 12 Tape Hiss Solutions?

Using Live 11 Lite I had imported my inventory of live band recordings made years ago on 2-track cassettes. Unfortunately many sessions were made without proper care taken for gain levels so there is a lot of tape hiss. I'm still a novice getting familiar with the Ableton environment and not yet ...

Correcting Performance Mistakes

Ableton Live 11
I have a mono, single track live recording that came out very well except for someone quickly speaking a couple of words that are very audible on the track.
I'm still learning Ableton so is there a technique for doing spot edits or some type of masking for very small corrections?
