Problem has disappeared. Project loads with no Change BPM event and with no asterisk. I have Scene tempo changes in the set.

I added Scene BPM values and saved the project. Now when it loads there is a Change BPM action in the Undo History and the asterisk is displayed denoting a change to the project. I see now that the jog wheel highlighting a clip in Session view does in fact display the clip in Clip view.
