I miss the edit button, but what I would really like to see is Ableton with it's own internal wave editor. I use Soundtrack Pro a lot and when working in a multitrack session, you can double click on a sample and it opens in a single-file wave editor. It also asks if you want to edit the original ...

So if Ableton has enough sales, best could be maybe, to split the line into a performance and into a studio product.

I completely agree with this statement. Make a Ableton DJ version and a Ableton Studio version. I am thinking now that Ableton has won the DAW award a few times, all they need are ...

It needs a third view for more advanced editing.

Amen. Some thing like Logic's Matrix editor would be most useful.

I would also like having a view where you can simultaneous see the waveforms of many clips, but each has it's own playhead...like in the session view. This would be great for DJing ...

Did you have to call them for that? I could go for that deal.

I agree with Pitch Black's points, but cost is definitely a factor. I have access to both at my school, but I plan to buy a MacBook Pro soon and with a student discount, I can get Logic Pro for $350. I'd like to have Live as well, but it's up to what, almost a grand now with all the extras?

it seems like people get defensive over their own choice in software. if you like live or logic or nuendo then fine.
Ditto. All DAW's have their respective advantages...except DP. It's never cool to use DP :)

Same here. Not a fan. Though I've heard it described as the "swiss army knife of MIDI workstations", the interface is not friendly. I felt like I was fighting the program to do what I wanted.

Effects presets for download?

Anyone know where I can get some extra presets for the Live effects (especially the Reverb)?

Solo Isolate.

Solo Isolate. This is especially important for aux returns and subgroups, which I use a lot.

Also:

A MIDI editor in a separate window (like Logic's Matrix Editor) would be nice (throw in a step input function too.)

The ability to hide tracks from view in the Mix window would be useful.

A track ...

you may want to consider the Firewire Audiophile for DJing instead.
That's what I though. The Firewire Audiophile would be ideal if I were only DJing, but it doesn't seem too great for recording.

Live DJing with FireWire Solo

I need to get a mobile interface for my notebook PC. I need something that's good for recording and DJing. The M-Audio Firewire Solo looks great for recording, but how is it for DJing? I would use the 1/4" line outputs for the master out of course. But can the headphone output be set for the cue in ...

Thanks for the input guys. I can relate to robb's gripe. Ideally, I'd like to have one track as smaller files saved into a live "track file" with the follow actions and such saved. That way, I could just drag the track file into my set and be ready to rock. The more tedious stuff I can get out of ...

DJs - One Big File or Lots of Small Ones?

I was just wondering if most DJs load a track as one big wav/aiff file or cut it up (with a wave editor) into smaller files for loops? I'm trying to take the latter approach.
