theres a master volume on the back of the djm but its fiddly to adjust on the sly and is a small screw like knob thats flush with the case.
If the decks were coming through loud and clear it probably isn't that though is it?

True. The crazy thing was that the first cardbus I tried was the Via chipset. Didn't work so phoned up M-Audio who said "yeah Via's crap, we always recommend TI" Got a TI cardbus, didn't work. Then got a Lucent one, which didn't work either. Fourth one was a Via again and of course this one works ...

I had all sorts of problems getting a Firewire adapter that worked with my sound interface (M-Audio Audiophile). Maybe the VIA chipset isn't compatible with your PC. Texas Instruments, Lucent and a couple of others make chips for the IEEE 1394 standard.

Also there are three different types of ...

Get ready for more Sasha threads

He's unveiling his new custom MIDI controller on Friday 3rd Dec.

Saturday 4th Dec should see a load of threads on here asking "so how do you use Live to DJ"?

Do you still buy vinyls and go through the hassle of recording it onto WAV.

Yeah pretty much and yes it is a hassle but I've always got to have the original vinyl for the collection.

I think MP3 is a horrible format anyway and converting back to WAV doesn't make it sound any better ...

At say point 65 I can see its clearly out so I drag the warp marker to line it up. I dont double click to make it yellow. The thing is once I make the adjustment and I zoom in other parts of track before this point eg point 33 - its not lined up perfectly.

I found the same thing happening when I ...

Sasha spanks one out over Live.

He stopped using vinyl a while ago. Uses CDJs now as well as Live. What I can't figure out is how he's using the A&H to monitor/pre-listen if he's doing all the mixing in Live via the UC-33e.

EDIT/ OK so he's running the 2nd out from the Audiophile into the ...

Yep that's right. Of course if you get a laptop already fitted with a FW port you won't need to bother with a PCMCIA card.

Alright Nigel. Fancy seeing you here.

Read this thread (if you haven't already) to see why Firewire is the better option.

If you end up getting a Firewire PCMCIA card for a laptop make sure you get one with the correct chipset. Most M ...

PCMCIA cards for M-Audio Firewire Audiophile

It seems my cheapo PC card can't handle FW Audiophile. Of the two approved ones on the M-Audio site I can only find one for sale on-line in the UK and it's almost £100 (the Ratoc). Bit steep I thought. Has anyone got any suggestions for other cards I can try?

That's a bargain. They're about £1,700 over here before you upgrade the RAM.

Yeah they do look filthy after a while. I need to stop eating my lunch over mine.

I'm on my 2nd Thinkpad. They're practically indestructible. Had Dells and HPs in the past but def prefer the IBM.

(although I'm a bit biased because I now actually work for IBM).

To be honest if you're just going to be using if for DJing rather than production I don't think you need the absolutely highest quality soundcard. Unless you're running it through some amazing mixer (I'm assuming you'll still want to use turntables/CDJs in conjunction with Live) like a Allen & Heath ...
