I've got a Dell Latitude P4/1.8 laptop and tried using it when I was on Live 3 and what annoyed the heck out of me is that the audio would stutter badly every 60 seconds. As it turns out the "bug" was caused by a Wireless card (any vendor, but I had Dell's True Mobile) searching for an available Wireless network would somehow interupt the PCI bus on the motherboard.

So everytime I'd start warping tracks and forget to turn of the NIC in the network properties I'd get pissed and start cussing at my computer, until I remembered the issue.

Sometimes it's easy to take for granted to wonderful an Apple Powerbook really is! (Especially with a lot of RAM and a Hitachi Travelstar!)

I'm on my 2nd Thinkpad. They're practically indestructible. Had Dells and HPs in the past but def prefer the IBM.

(although I'm a bit biased because I now actually work for IBM).

I'll second Padraig regarding the 1.5ghz IBM T40. With a gig of RAM it's a monster. The main problem is the black plastic might not be the sturdiest ... and it shows up the dust.

A little over 1000 UK pounds from Singapore (Nov 2003), so it could be worth a little holiday and you could visit Zouk club too! The other problem is that they have US keyboards there, so I always have to type 'UK pounds'...

That's a bargain. They're about £1,700 over here before you upgrade the RAM.

Yeah they do look filthy after a while. I need to stop eating my lunch over mine.

Padraig - I had to pay for RAM on top of that too.

Does your Hitachi drive takes it's power from the USB connection? I would prefer one that does, even though the more 'pro' ones often have their own PSU. Have you had any problems with it? I'm quickly running out of space now that I've got broadband ...

maybe I should mention as well: I installed an extra 512 mb on my Sony Z1 (1.5 gHz Centrino). Needed to run Reason's Drum Kits Refill smoothly :D
