Hrm, thanks adamjay. Nobody else has every come up with a solution for the count-in, in all the time i've been reading this board.

However, all other apps can do this without me buying more hardware (a midi pedal) and a midi interface. Why am I required to buy midi gear to do live instrument ...

Live starts recording the instant you hit play with record enabled. If you play guitar, it generally takes a few seconds to get your hands off the keyboard or mouse and back to the guitar and then get ready to play. This is all being recorded on the track.

Other apps allow you to have a 4-beat (or ...

Keep in mind that Live has no "count-in" for recording unlike other DAW apps. Makes it more difficult to quickly record guitar and vocals as you have to manually prune the space. You can hack it with MIDI, but not for audio tracks.

Sorry for sounding dumb here, but I still dont' know how to get it to start auto-recording after my hand-made metronome sample in an audio track. I tried but it just keeps replaying the metronome even with the follow action set and "start recording on activate" set.

It was pointed out that this ...

I'm recording an audio track, not midi. Does this not work unless it's midi?

create a metronome clip with wathever click sound you like.
set its follow action to 'play next', with the number of bars you want as a precount.
if you set the 'record on launch' in prefrences to on, the clip shall start recording straight after your precount.

I tried this in live4 and it doesn ...

I actually tried to do this in live4 and couldn't get it to work. i made the first scene empty except for a 4beat metronome click in track 1. I turned off looping and set the follow action to "next". I have auto play on select and auto record on select turned on. Record is enabled for track 1.

When ...

But then don't i have to keep moving the "metronome" scene for everything beyond the first scene that I want to record in the session view? Seems like a serious hassle :(

I wholeheartedly second the count-in on recording in session view. it's a huge omission and makes me have to edit the leading whitespace out of everything I record there, or record it in the arrangement view.

Very annoying! Please add this feature!!

Both GB and Live were set to 120bpm. No difference between how it sounds in file browser and how it is in the session view.

Any other ideas?

Count-in for recording in session view?

I much prefer to work out the structure of my song in the session view, which means recording snippets of live guitar and bass in the session view. However, I can't figure out how to get the session view to do a 'count in' when recording.

It's a pain to have to wait 3 or 4 beats after I start ...

Warbling tracks (macOS)

I have a bunch of live guitar and bass recorded in GarageBand and LiveDelta. These recorded tracks (.aif's) exist on disk and I can see them in the file browser.

When i preview them in the file browser for Live4, they play back warbled and way too fast. Does this mean that I can't use them in Live4 ...

Awesome, you're totally right. Never thought that envelopes would be MIDI control signals. Not the term I'd use to associate them. Regardless, I got it.

Thanks again!

Routing MIDI control signals to Reason?

I've been looking but can't find any way to route MIDI control signals from Live into Reason to, for example, tell ReDrum to switch patterns or tweak one of the controls w/in Reason.

I can send midi note data no problem. Does this just not exist?

But that's the whole point of non-destructive edits...not having to bounce down and bake in effects (the xfade) so that you can't go back and tweak it later.

Seems like a huge missing in a DAW app to me. :(
