Need a "count-off" feature in Session and Arrangem

Post by donp » Sat Jul 17, 2004 11:06 pm

A thread in the General forum suggested this... (see http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=55603)

There is a need for a "count-off" function, not simply a metronome. A count-off will optionally start playing from before bar one. For example, a 1-bar count-off would start at bar "zero", playing for four beats and then bar 1 would play.

Most sequencers have this, and it really is a requirement for any kind of live recording, since a live player must have some way of knowing when the first beat will come. This can work in conjunction with the metronome, by having the metronome provide the "click" during the count-off.

I agree. 1, 2, 3, or 4 measure count off would be ideal.

you can record a clip with a metronome sound (or any click you like), put it on the first scene and put a follow action as you like: move to next scene after 1 bar, and so on... (that is, if you've got Live4)
this will do the trick, and i guess it's even better, as you can really integrate the countdown in your song (like putting effects on it)

But then don't i have to keep moving the "metronome" scene for everything beyond the first scene that I want to record in the session view? Seems like a serious hassle :(

I actually tried to do this in live4 and couldn't get it to work. i made the first scene empty except for a 4beat metronome click in track 1. I turned off looping and set the follow action to "next". I have auto play on select and auto record on select turned on. Record is enabled for track 1.

When i hit play on the metronome scene or the clip, it plays and keep looping (even though looping is off). It never moves to the next clip in teh track or starts recording. What am i not doing?
