i don't care about new leopard functionality...
and i don't wanna 'fix' anything unless it's broken
i'll switch to leopard only when new version of Live requires it.

If you have, just read the manual on how to reset the challenge key of your live (you can do it 2 times per license I think).

I had a 5.1 system until I ...

you can try controlling the tempo in real time via TAP - map it to some midi controller (foot switch is a good candidate).
we have successfully tried this in a band and it works really GREAT!

I had this problem too...
I simply love 'mixed records' and performances without the stupid silence between the songs. I currently use prerecorded mp3s as transitions between songs. Let me explain:
for each song, I have prerecorded a couple of beginning bars (or some other sounds to fit the end of one song and beginning of ...

no clicks
there are 3 of us playing - bass, drums and Live. The drummer uses no clicks because there's a huge downside in having the 'click' in the ears - drummers tend to play more with the click than the band. Also, imagine having to listen to the dull click the whole gig - personally, I'd go crazy.

try this
EQ8 - try to find the hiss frequencies with narrow positive (high Q) peaks and then reduce that peak as much as you can in EQ8. Also, you can add GATE and gently set the treshold to cutoff the silent portion of the sound.

2 / 3 mb of ram
I have 2.2 macbook pro stuffed with 3 gb ram, therefore I have all my samplers / audio tracks in RAM mode. I've never seen Live occupying more than ~500mb in my ram.

I play with real time musicians so I have no need to use the arrangement view. I store all the automation in clips.

i agree. the best thing is to have one OS just for live playing without any additional software or bullshit, no internet connection, disabling unused adapters helps A LOT in some cases (bluetooth, infrared, wireless). there is an utility for XP that can test your OS stability regarding sound setup ...
