"Would I ever need to consider some sort of soundcard or is all I need within the iMac?"
Do you want to record into your imac, or will you work only with samples/softsynths?
Give us an idea of how you want to work
Thanks for your prompt reply!

Tips for a Mac newbie?
Hi there,
I've just started using Live 5 on a 2.1 Ghz Power PC iMac.
I'm finding lots of great information here but wondered if any Mac users had any tips re. minimising CPU usage etc.
I've got a fast external drive - is it best to keep all of my Live files and samples etc. on this?
Would I ever ...

Re: Mac OSX and Edirol UA-1X problem?
Further to my earlier message I've tried the interface with a laptop Mac and it's working fine.
So the problem seems specific to the G4 tower (though both are running the same system version).
What I've also noticed is that in Audio Midi Setup, on the G4 tower when you select 'Properties for USB ...

Mac OSX and Edirol UA-1X problem?
I've recently started using Live and have just added the Edirol UA-1X USB audio interface to my G4 Mac.
It seemed to be working fine initially (for the first day), but when I booted up Live yesterday I got the following error message initially, and then when trying to select the audio ouput in the ...

VST or AU?
Apologies for what might be a daft question...
If, say, a soft synth is available in BOTH Audio Unit and VST formats, is one better than the other when using with Live 4 on a Mac?
Thanks!
Simon

Bass guitar into Live via Mac?
Hi there,
Sorry if this is a bit of a basic question...
I'm running Live 4 on an aluminium PowerBook.
I wanted to get some live bass guitar recorded into this.
I've got a Hartke bass amp which has 1/4" jacks send & returns on the back for an effect look plus an XLR socket marked 'Direct Out'.
I ...

PowerBook 1.5 ghz and 7200rpm external drive?
I've just taken the plunge and ordered Live 4 to run on my 1.5 ghz PowerBook running Panther.
There seems to be a lot of talk re. drive speeds and I'm a bit confused.
I don't really want to replace the drive in the PB itself but I am looking to buy an external drive.
My question is, would getting ...

Live and soft-synths?
I'm interested in getting a copy of Live 4 - I've downloaded the demo and I'm very impressed.
Before I purchase, I just wanted to double check how it works with soft-synths. Can these be used without using Reason/ReWire?
I don't have any soft-synths yet (Live will be my first song-writing set up ...
