Re: Having Trouble Composing and Producing

Glad to hear it resonates with you. I'm in early days myself, trying to practice what I'm preaching here :) Re: my music, I took most of my older material offline because I'm working on some new stuff in a very different vein. I'll definitely put it up when it's in decent shape. BTW, I love the idea...

Re: Having Trouble Composing and Producing

When I run into a block like this (it happens often) I write music an 1/8 note at a time. This means that the focus shifts to creating a combination of tones that sounds pleasing for each unit of time in my song structure. Re: How do you begin your compositions and/or productions?

Nowadays, I always start with a chord progression. Once the chords are in, I start to develop a harmonic rhythm, and then this dictates a basic drum part. Melody comes last, usually.

Re: Producing in double time - inspiring / liberating feeling??

Yep, this trick has been around in one form or another for a long time. Being able to work in smaller note intervals is a lot of fun, especially when you write music with lots of little note slurs, glitches, etc.

Re: Won't advances eventually make musicians near obsolete?

You cannot teach creativity to machines, you can only teach rules and then increase the complexity of the rules. Those rules can only be as complex as the mind of the system architect. And just think, people spend decades of their lives raising their children and still cannot impart every bit of wi...
