I use the tried and true FireWire 1814(home) & 410(road). Both are rock solid stable for me (XP & OS X), sound great, and have very good in-driver routing. Some cards might sound a tad better (s/n ratio), but for the price/performance/portability factors, I'm quite happy with the M-Audio duo.

I have 2 DJ setups.

1. M-Audio Torq Xponent w/ Torq v1.0.4 (traditional beatmatch mixing)
2. Live 7 w/ UC-33e, Trigger Finger, Axiom 25 w/ FireWire 410 (creative mixing)

I've been DJing for 11 years (vinyl, CD, etc) and it's nice to have something like Live to break off from the sometimes boring ...

On the new iMac's, if you want great viewing angles and a much better viewing experience, go with the 24" because they have S-IPS panels in them. The 20" LCD's (TN panels, the same type as the newer 13" MacBook's) are notorious for terrible viewing angles and an overall low quality bad viewing ...

Another way is to plug both systems into a router (wired or wireless, whichever you use) or hub (wired of course) and just share the files/folders you want to transfer and move them over. A very simple way to do it.

Acer has XP drivers for about all of their notebooks, and possibly all of them. Like the poster above said, most PC notebook FireWire connections are either generic or Ricoh branded, which aren't good at all for critical audio work. Some use the Texas Instruments chipset, but not many.
