I'm finding that some hubs have slightly recessed USB-C ports and the blocky cable that Ableton includes with Push 3 doesn't fully seat in them.

Bummer. Sorry to hear it. The symptom I saw was that saved sets, including older backups, loaded with all of the Max for Live devices reset to their default parameters. After I reset Max for Live, those projects opened with the values I set.

I've had this happen a few times. I wrote to Ableton support and they suggested I follow these instructions to reset Max for Live: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209774245-How-to-reset-Max-for-Live

are the pads at least in chromatic order? if so, use a pitch effect and shift it the necessary number of notes.

They are. The mapping matches the slots in Impulse. The pitch effect is a good idea, but you still lose the ability to scroll through multiple sets of pads that way, right?

Bump... anyone using a Remote SL Compact with drum racks?

I just got a Novation ReMOTE 25SL Compact last week and set it up to use with Live 7. Everything is working great except for drum racks. The way I understand it, Ableton is supposed to remap the drum pads on your controller to the ones scrolled into view, but mine always play C3-C4.
