my point being that having only a laptop on stage and standing clicking a mouse for 90 minutes or so must be the most awefull boring 'show' imaginable...

Should be no problem, the file types are standard across windows versions. You might notice a performance hit though, as XP has a load of services (background apps) that you dont get with old versions of windows.
There should be some posts in here on how to tweak XP so it doesnt load all of these ...

Anybody out there got any thoughts/techniques for doing more interesting things with live (in a DJ context) other than fading/dropping in or out channels etc?
No offence, but Ive never been a fan of the sasha/any other trance DJ/gentle fading technique, and have much more respect for house DJ's ...
