Running the amp on max would risk both the ears of the people in the club and the speakers if the DJ does any mistake with the levels during the gig. Signal wise it's better to go on full with the low level signal from the mixer from to the PA as well, which leads to lower noise floor.

Ok, I got it, holding down command when holding down the midi note range (in midi map mode) on the keyboard did the trick

I did the performance test now as well in snow leo, 25% cpu load in ableton live 8.04 (tested both 32 and 64 bit kernel, pretty much the same result). Mac spec is 2.4 Ghz Quad and 8 GB Ram.
