Back to basics: playing multi-timbral instruments

Is there any workaround to play the various channels of a multi-timbral hardware or vst instrument from a single MIDI track that lets the MIDI Channel values of the Notes coming from the master keyboard pass through unchanged? Like it can be done in Cubase with the "Any" channel setting since the ...

Re: Life is too short - MaxMsp skills wanted

you can check for what scene is triggered, but not playing. this makes sense because the scene isn't really anything more than a row of slots.
I'm not sure I got this right, but I can set up a dummy clip for every scene that would never be triggered individually, only when the scene gets launched ...

Re: Follow action "when clip ends"

"The Follow Action Time control defines when a Follow Action takes place in bars-beats-sixteenths from the point in the clip where play starts"
This is not well suited for clips of random, varying lengths (like a field recording of a waterfall, or an entire song). It yields inaccurate results. It ...

Re: Follow action "when clip ends"

Launch the next clip when the current clip ends. Simple!

I might have got it totally wrong, but wouldn't this have the same effect as setting the Follow Action Time equal to the clip length and the Action to Next?

... problem here seems to be that Ableton has not yet accepted that besides ...

Re: Life is too short - MaxMsp skills wanted

Here's another one:

I need to set up a remote command that instantly triggers the Next/Previous Scene. I discovered that Live's default launching tools can't handle this very easy task. (There's a more detailed description of what I tried in a separate thread: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php ...

Re: Life is too short - MaxMsp skills wanted

Thanks, that sounds promising. So does it mean it's possible to create a plugin that does this:

The user can create an initial list of clips whose playback status will be evaluated (e.g. 3 clips (A, B and C) can be selected from a pulldown menu)

If a remote control note arrives, then
if clip A is ...

Life is too short - MaxMsp skills wanted

Hi,

I need a simple MIDI plugin, that does very similar things to a Kontakt script I developed earlier, but I'm afraid I'll have no time to learn MaxMsp. Basically it should remap incoming MIDI notes (used as remote commands) depending on the playback position in the session. Here's an example ...

Absolute Mute/Unmute commands

The channel Mute switch is a toggle, which doesn't suit many applications. Dedicated Mute/Unmute remote commands should also exist.

Save/load metronome state

I thought it should be obvious to save the playback state of the metronome, but not in Live: it has to be activated manually on every startup. Is this another little annoyance or is there a way to load sessions with the metronome on?

Saving/Loading MIDI remote command mappings

In long sessions with many clips the number of keys/pads that we have on our triggering devices (24-64 buttons in most cases, but even a full length keyboard has only 88 keys) may not be enough to launch all clips and scenes. Actually it's not hard to use up all 127 MIDI notes with short samples in ...

Song parts with frozen length

This is a feature that I'been begging for years:

Any drum machine and pattern based sequencer that was made on Earth in the last 30 years can do this. I can't see why the No.1 performance sequencer shouldn't.

For Songs that consist of parts like verse, chorus etc. (I mean real song parts and not ...

Re: Instantly Launching Next/Previous scene

That's basically what I emulated when I created the MIDI clip with two notes (one for moving selection up/down and another one for launching the scene) and nudged the "scene launch" note to the right by a few millisecs.

As I said, it didn't work, because it still executed the launch command first ...

Instantly Launching Next/Previous scene

I'm trying really hard to like Live, but I keep falling back to a mental state as if I had to cut down a tree with a herring. Here's another very easy task that seems to be impossible.

This time I tried to set up two MIDI remote commands: one that instantly launches the previous scene and another ...

Can it be done in v8?

Hi,

I'm writing here as a Live owner, not as a user. I made several attempts with different versions to use Live on stage in the last five years, but I always ended up reverting to Cubase due to the lack of some crucial features in Live. The latest version I have is 7, so I don't know what the new ...
