So, I managed to use BOME's MT to intercept and "swallow" APC40s midi messages.

I'm using the left half of the grid as navigation: Arrow up, left, down, right, Command, and QWERTY things.

But how do I get BOME's to provide LED feedback BACK to the APC?

I will say that the freeware version of Bome seems to do exactly what I was looking for, with very little hassle. Only tricky part was figuring out the need to re-route the APC's output through a virtual MIDI port...once that was in, the rest was easy.
