I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU to AMD Athlon64 X2, but am wondering whether there's any performance gain to be had from it when working with Live and VST plug-ins.

The question is will Live use X2's both cores to their fullest capabilities? I work with a lot of synth plug-ins that are really ...

This is the way it goes down:

1) I turn on my dedicated studio-PC (MSI mobo, Athlon64 3200+, 2GB RAM, E-MU Emulator-X, TC Electronics Powercore Firewire)

2) I run Live 5.0.1 and load the Live set I've been working on

3) the first time I play the Live set, everything coming out of the speakers is ...

My band had a gig a couple of weeks ago. We didn't have enough time to practice, so I rendered the songs into WAVs, leaving out a few melodies which I decided to play live during the gig. I then installed both 4.1.4 and 5.0.1 into my laptop and dropped the WAVs into both.

Yes indeed, deleting imported Preferences helped. I managed to enter the serial number (with ALT+TAB & Wordpad, no less), but things got tricky when I tried to activate plug-ins.

Live 5.0.1 crashed several times when scanning the VST directory. At first it was probably my fault, as when I clicked ...

So I got my free upgrade to 5.0.1 earlier today (thanks Ableton!) and proceeded to install it into my PC, which was (and still is) hosting v4.1.4.

Up pops the "enter serial number" dialog window, so I press ALT+TAB to look at the wordpad document where I have the serial. Live simply disappears off ...

Thanks for this very valuable tip. I'm thinking about taking Live 5 on the road and do some DJ'ing with it, and VBR mp3s form the bulk of my material.

I noticed that "This offer is good for all upgrades to Live 5" bit, too. I've got my credit card armed and ready to do some purchasing, if only Ableton were willing to sell Operator separately for the offer price of EUR89.

Admittedly, I did get a free upgrade to Live 5, so perhaps I'm just being ...

I had a not-yet-authorized installation of Live v4.1.1 on my HD for a while. Today I downloaded v4.1.4 and installed it into the same directory, then proceeded to authorize it via web. Everything went smoothly and I started a new project from scratch.

Imported a few MIDI tracks and started playing ...
