Can't assign MIDI controls in Live 8

I just upgraded to both Snow Leopard and Live 8. Bit early I know, but still...

Somehow in the transition I can no longer assign MIDI controls to anything in Live. I'm pretty sure the problem is within live as running MIDI Monitor shows all the correct events coming through.

Within Live the 'MIDI ...

Re: de/incrementing BPM via a MIDI button?

That's perfect NPC - thanks!

Can't believe it's such an odd process to get this setup, I'm sure loads of people must want to do this. Anyway, that works great, thanks again.

de/incrementing BPM via a MIDI button?

I'm trying to setup a MIDI controller at the moment for use in live DJ sets. One thing I really want to be able to do (but can't work out) is to have a MIDI button that increments the BPM by +1 and another that does the opposite.

Can anyone explain how to get this setup? I'm using Live 7 on OSX. If ...

Yep that's the best I've managed to get, but with 'retrigger on wraparound' turned off it doesn't have quite the same function unfortunately.

Hi. I don't have effectrix, but I would think that instead of using the bypass button within the plugin GUI, you can midi map the on/off switch within Live to your keyboard to achieve the same effect.

It seems that any midi that gets sent to Effectrix is used to change the pattern. I assume that ...

Mapping Effectrix

Hey,

I'm trying out Effectrix at the moment but I'm having trouble mapping it quite how I want. Is it possible to control the 'bypass' button or (or any other buttons that don't have variable values) from within live, and therefore the laptop keyboard (not midi)? It seems odd that all the slider ...

I should have mentioned I'm on a Mac using Live 7.

But I'm still not sure how this would work anyway?

Incrementing BPM with keyboard

Hey,

Is it possible to assign a computer keyboard key to increasing or decreasing the BPM by 1? Just as happens when the BPM field has focus and you press up or down.

I use Live for DJing and quite often want to change BPM at the same time as mixing so it'd be useful to be able to do it while ...

Yeah I think that's a pretty absolute conclusion - time to put some headphones on and do some warping!

Thanks

I tried lengthening the replacement MP3, but again no success.

I think I'm going to have to conclude that the ASDs are probably just as corrupt as the MP3s (ie, the whole folder got damaged). I don't think there's a way to check the validity of the ASDs though?

As to what caused it - it may well ...

The first question is really tricky for me to answer... because the current MP3 is corrupt I can't check it's length (it simply won't open in any audio software). However, I can't think how it's length would have changed from the other file.

I'm at work right now but when I get home I'll experiment ...

Sure :)

Here you can see the corrupt file on the left and the new file on the right.

Then here I have replaced the file, 'touched' the ASD and you can see it's properties.

Still no joy though - Live re-analyses the MP3 and gives it default settings.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's more ...

I'm afraid I can't get that to work. I replaced the MP3, then 'touched' the ASD (I am on Windows btw) but Live still ignores the ASD when I load the MP3 in :(

I was hoping that if the filename and playback length were the same then there would be a way of getting Ableton to use that new MP3 with the existing ASD? But it seems to somehow realise that the MP3 has changed
