Thanks for the response. I took a look at m4l when it first came out and was able to navigate to a clip inside a session slot and replace its notes. At the time, there didn't seem to be a way to navigate to a clip inside an arrangement.

I have not tried all modern DAWs (by a long shot)

It is a good idea to save 'your' settings to a preset, so that you can call them up again on a different track/ song.
You can do than within some plugins preset system, or in Live's browser - as you prefer.

In the arrange view, there doesn't seem to be a way to add midi ctrl automation on a midi track. Is that correct? Can someone explain the design rationale behind this?

It seems that when I edit a plugin preset - nexus, in this case - and save the live document without saving the modified preset within nexus, when I open up the document again, the modified settings of the preset are retained.

Is that how plugins work in general? Is this a recommended way of ...

I use VSTs in Live, I use AUs in Live, on a Mac 2.4 lappie, no problems, of course. I'm on Live 7. no idea what Live 8s like.

I've got Sylenth too, can run loads of instances of it, very CPU friendly.

Basically, at least in my experience, there is no issue with Mac laptops.

nuxnamon, thx for the tweakheadz reference. sonic academy was the only site i could find that would take you through a dance track in live step-by-step with all the sounds and samples. however, it's not inexpensive so wanted to know if anybody had any experience with it and if it was worth the money ...
