I agree, a “copy all automation” feature would be a great addition! For now, here’s my workaround:
Make a duplicate of the track. Route the audio/midi from the original (A) to the copy (B). Make sure B is on INPUT. On track B, keep only the clip that has the automation you want to apply. You can ...

Turns out it was a documented bug going back to version 8.0.2. A pretty spectacular bug I'd say. The ability to reliably set a punch-in location on a track is something I'd expect from even the most basic sequencer or DAW.
