sorry Ruso, but if you think Djing in 2007 is just up to mixing two tracks to the right tempo, I think you're lost...

DJing is still mostly about mixing 2 tracks at the same tempo. Most of my favourite DJs (Ellen Allien, Adam Beyer, Luciano) do just that.

Last time I saw Richie Hawtin he was ...

Awww Glasgow's the best place I've ever lived.

Lovely, charismatic people, great music scene and real character.

Edinburgh is nice for a visit but seriously, if you like music there's a lot less going on there. More bands stop by Glasgow on tour and the Arches is a hive of activity for ...

Can someone PLEASE help me identify this track?

Hi guys,

I've heard this amazing wonky, jazzy techno belter twice recently, played by Magda and Ellen Allien in their sets and it's rocking my world.

Could some kind, knowlegable techno bod have a listen and identify it for me? I'm desperate to get it and I have a gig soon. There's a snippet here ...

doesnt the UK have any laws in place that might lead to a court case where this could be outlawed as usury and un-fair business practice?

Nobody seems to care. I guess the whole thing is so riduculous that no-one is taking it seriously. But someone will end up in court over it, and maybe then it ...

I don't mind doing things legitimately. I love music and I wanted to DJ so:

I saved and bought an ibook (£700), a midi controller (£100) and a legitimate copy of Ableton Live 4 (250). Then I bought new tracks - around $150 at Beatport alone.

Now they say I have to spend another £200. But the guy ...

This is all over the news again in the UK.

I DJ 2 hours a month. I get paid £30, after we've paid for the promotional costs such as posters, of which I pay my income tax on that. I use either Beatport MP3s (which the FAQ says I'm allowed to DJ with) or WAV copies of promos sent to me. The money I ...

The last set I did, I used .AIFF converted from Beatport MP3s in Ableton Live 4 and a punter actually commented that my set sounded a lot punchier, clearer (and better) than the vinyl set before.

The sound quality of the Beatport MP3s is generally great imho.

Great site. :)

Ok I'm gonna let someone else answer this cause i don't make music!

"Once on TV I caught a glimpse of Giorgio Moroder talking about making the song I feel love. He used a step sequencer to play 8s on the synth - c8 c g b (I am using Lilypond notation). Whilst the loop was playing Georgio switched ...

I believe Moroder discovered that bassline by accidentally running a simple bass through a delay, so if you really wanna be authentic, don't put notes on the 16ths. Put them on the 8ths and use a delay to trigger a note immediately after each one played. With a bit or feedback.

Or something.

Oh I ...

I hope everyone is getting sick of Hawtin.

Cause I went to see him at Fabric last week and it was too busy to even get in to the room where he was playing.

I hope Ellen Allien comes back. She was great, and I had enough room to swing a cat.

Although the cat may have been caused by the drugs ...
